The Knit Studio: a unique knitting destination in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne

About The Knit Studio

Owned by Anne Makepeace, the Knit Studio opened officially in September 2010, and is located in the cloister of the historic 13th century Blackfriars Priory, just behind The Gate complex and China Town. Blackfriars enjoys a 700 year old history of craftworkers - come and see what makes it so special.

The Knit Studio is also available as a meeting venue and since opening has been host to The Embroiderers Guild, The Knitting & Crochet Guild, Craft Cruises USA and The Clandestine Cake Club.

More recently, Knitting Groups from York, Ripon, Holystone and Escrick have enjoyed an exclusive evening/day at The Knit Studio.

If you would like to arrange a visit for your Knitting or Craft Group please contact Anne at The Knit Studio for further details.

About Anne Makepeace

Passionate about knitting since she was 8 years old, Anne comes from a family of crafters and artists. Growing up surrounded by yarns, fabrics, beads, buttons, books, sewing machines, watercolour & oil paints, drawing equipment, beautiful paper and pens, it was only natural that Anne became a lover of all things handcrafted.

With a background in Finance and Banking - Anne has also worked as a Design Consultant with Rowan Yarns, Holmfirth and then went on to become a popular Knitting, Crochet & Sewing Workshop Tutor travelling throughout the UK and France.

Anne has been a living statue on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square London as part of Anthony Gormley's OneandOther Project in 2009 - and yes, you have guessed correctly - Anne spent her hour, knitting & crocheting and talking about it!

Anne has been Regional Co-Ordinator of The Knitting and Crochet Guild UK and holds regular meetings at The Knit Studio.

Keen to support local charities - Anne has been Treasurer of the Newcastle City Branch of Arthritis Care for the last 7 years.

Anne is available as a Speaker or Tutor for groups or charities - please contact for more details.
